Two rescued in Scotland after flare is spotted

Two people have been rescued from a boat that ran aground in Moray, Scotland, after firing a flare.
The small boat ran into trouble on rocks near Hopeman one night in September 2019. Rescuers were alerted after a flare was ignited and two people were rescued.
Emergency service teams including Buckie Lifeboat, Burghead Coastguard Rescue Team, the Inverness Coastguard helicopter and the Moray Independent Rescue Organisation (MIRO) attended.
Officers from Burghead swam out to the boat, which was on rocks around 50 metres from the coastline, the BBC reports.
A spokesperson from HM Coastguard says, “We received a 999 call from a two people on board a 15ft powerboat saying they were adrift off Hopeman Harbour, Moray.
“When Burghead Coastguard Rescue Team arrived, the vessel was 50m from the shore and heading towards the rocks, the team carried out a water rescue and brought the two men to shore. Both where safe and well and did not need medical attention.”
