Surf Life Saving club buying flares with grant

A life saving club in New Zealand has received a grant of almost $6,000 toward safety equipment, including flares.
Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi has received $5849 from the Franklin Local Board’s Coastal Rescue Services Fund.
The Waiuku-based club’s gift will be used for flares, pelican cases, torches, lifejackets and a scout camera.
A club spokesperson says, “A massive thanks to the Franklin Local Board for kindly donating us the funds to purchase vital rescue equipment. Being a volunteer organisation, we rely on funding streams like this to continue the service we provide.”
Franklin west coach beach Kariaotahi’s wildlife and nature makes volunteer life-savers critical and Surf Life Saving Kariaotahi’s current rescue incident equipment is at the end of its life.

Other awards from Franklin Local Board’s Coastal Rescue Services Fund went to coastguard services at Maraetai and search and rescue at Waiuku.
The fund supports sea rescue and survival skills training and the board backs volunteers who provide the services.
Board chair Angela Fulljames says, “Franklin has a lot of coastline and we are lucky to have the dedicated volunteers who give up their own time, so people can call on them in the event of emergency”, according to Auckland Council’s website.
