RNLI crew members rescue colleagues thanks to flare

Two RNLI crew members have been rescued by colleagues off the Cornwall coast after firing a red flare following the sinking of their fishing boat.
RNLI at The Lizard was paged by Falmouth Coastguard one afternoon in September following a report that the fishing vessel Crig a Tana was in trouble southeast of Lizard Point.
Under the command of Second Coxswain Darren Thirlaway, the lifeboat Rose launched and searched the area. Within a few minutes, the crew spotted a red flare and sited a raft, which contained the two crew of the Crig A Tana, who are also members of the Lizard RNLI team. They had been forced to abandon their vessel when it sank suddenly.
The two, who were shaken, but unhurt, were taken onboard the RNLI lifeboat. HM Coastguard rescue helicopter and the Mullion Coastguard Rescue team were also in attendance.
The RNLI crew said, “A difficult service for our station today, as the crew of the Crig a Tana are also members of our lifeboat crew. We are so very grateful for their safe return.”
