Red flares aids rescue in Ireland

01/05/2019

A lifeboat was launched in Ireland one evening in April 2019 after red flares were seen and helped save four crew in a broken-down boat.

The RNLI’s Red Bay Lifeboat was launched after red distress flares were sighted off Torr Head, near Ballycastle, Northern Ireland.
They were fired by crew of four aboard a seven-metre boat, which had lost engine power and was being tossed about in rough seas. The distress flares were seen by two people in a kayak in the area who contacted Belfast Coastguard.
The lifeboat located the vessel and towed it safely to Cushendall. No-one was injured in the incident.
