Parachute flares and orange smokes in firefighters’ rescue equipment

Parachute flares and floating orange smoke signals are part of new rescue kit given to firefighters in the Indian district of Ernakulam. The donation totals Rs 52 lakh – around half a million pounds.
The equipment will be used to strengthen rescues during disasters like floods, which struck the region in 2018 and 2019, reports the Times of India.
The kit ranging from life rafts to parachute flares and first-aid equipment have been handed over to the fire department. It was supplied by energy companies Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Petronet LNG Ltd through their Corporate Social responsibility funds.
Following the floods, the department asked the district administration to supply fire safety apparatus to be used in emergency rescue.
Most of the lifebuoys and life jackets will be given to fire stations on the coast or near water. The rest of the equipment will be divided equally between other stations.
Seven more dinghies were also supplied, which are essential for rescue operations during floods. Now, all major fire stations have at least one each dinghy each.
Among other equipment supplied included a self-contained breathing apparatus, hydrostatic release units for life rafts, imported self-igniting lights for lifebuoys and inflatable rescue boats.
