Three boaters were rescued in challenging conditions and located through a parachute flare after they were injured when their vessel ran into difficulties.

The launch got into trouble after two crew were injured in strong winds and waves off the Hawke’s Bay coast one night in December 2023.

Volunteer rescuers on board the Celia Knowles Rescue used a parachute flare to locate the stricken boat and crew in mist and poor conditions.
