Para-illuminating flares used in nighttime search

Para-illuminating flares have been used in a night-time search for a high-risk missing person.
Emergency services were out in force one evening in May in the search in Dunbar, on Scotland’s East Coast.
Dunbar Coastguard, North Berwick Coastguard, Eyemouth Coastguard, Berwick Coastguard, Senior Coastal Operations Officer, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 and Dunbar RNLI All-Weather (ALB) and Inshore (ILB) Lifeboats were all involved.
Police Scotland issued the alert and a search plan was formulated by the Coastguard Officer in Charge and executed by Coastguard Search Teams.
A spokesman for Dunbar Coastguard says, “Both Dunbar lifeboats conducted a search of the coastline from the sea and assisted the search teams by deploying para-illuminating flares.
“During the search, the missing person made themselves known to police. Coastguards regrouped to debrief before returning to their respective stations.” The details and image is courtesy of Dunbar Coastguard Instagram.
