Paddleboarders well equipped with flares

Stand-up paddleboarders have been praised by the RNLI crew for carrying flares and other marine safety equipment.
The reminder of good marine safety practice came after the two stand-up paddleboarders were reported to be in difficulty in Anglesey, Wales, one day in February. However, they were not in trouble.
An RNLI Moelfre spokesperson says, “Both paddleboarders were well-equipped and carried flares and means of communication.”
A member of the public spotted them in Bull Bay, off Porth LlechogRNLI Moelfre’s all-weather lifeboat Kiwi was launched. The RNLI crew spotted the paddleboarders in open water.
Coxswain Martin “Bonty” Jones slowly manoeuvred the lifeboat towards two paddleboarders to check on their condition and ensure they didn’t need the assistance of the volunteer crew to get back ashore.
Moelfre volunteer, Mike Hughes-Roberts, says, “The member of the public did the right thing, reporting what they perceived as someone in difficulty.
“It is always better to be safe than sorry; safety is always our priority.”
The paddleboarders were advised to contact the Coastguard when they returned.
