Off-duty lifeboat crew sees flare and carries out rescue

An off-duty lifeboat crew spotted a flare and rescued the crew of a stranded dive boat.
Wick Lifeboat was called upon one afternoon in September to assist a dive boat with a fouled propeller.
It made its way to an area called The Old Man of Wick, where a flare had been spotted.
At the same time, off-duty lifeboat crew were taking part in a fishing contest in two vessels, the Topaz and Sapphire.
They saw the flare and went to help. On the way, they spotted four divers in the water and each vessel rescued two divers.
When the lifeboat arrived, the crew saw there were another four divers and two crew in the vessel. The dive boat had run aground, but had not been holed.
The XP lifeboat was launched and attached a tow. It pulled the boat free of the rock and took it back to Wick Harbour.
