Illuminating flares used in rescue of six

Illuminating flares have been used in a nighttime rescue of six mariners in a boat that ran aground off Maui, Hawaii.
They were used by US Coast Guard watchstanders after the sailing boat Moana ran around off Oluwalu and drifted towards a surf zone.
Maui Station coast guard launched a 45-foot response boat plus a Barbers Point aircrew.
The illuminating flares were dropped by the aircrew and were used to direct rescuers to the boat. The watchstanders then brought the six crew safely back to land.
