Wescom Group Marketing Manager Frances Hunt and Sales Executive Allyson Ogg have visited marine welfare charity Sailors’ Society to see how it looks after the well-being of seafarers around the world.
Frances and Ally were taken on board three vessels to learn about the breadth and depth of the Sailors’ Society’s work and met Sailors’ Society chaplains and staff at Southampton docks, in the UK.
They say, “Wescom Group is a long-standing supporter of Sailors’ Society, and it was insightful and informative to see first-hand the excellent work the global maritime charity does.”
During the visit, Port Chaplain, Frans Sahetapy, delivered wi-fi units for the seafarers to use whilst in port to enable them to contact loved ones. Also delivered were doughnuts and burger meal deals for those that could not leave their ship.
Beth Courtier, of Sailors’ Society says, “Being able to chat with crew on board ship really helps to understand some of the challenges that can arise as a result of life at sea and the importance of the practical and emotional support offered by our team.
“Our work simply would not be possible without the donations we receive from our valued supporters. Thanks so much for your support, Wescom!”
Wescom Group sponsored Sailors’ Society Wellness at Sea conference. Several staff members have been ambassadors for the charity and Yanming Bay, of Singapore distributor Safety Innovators International Pte Ltd, has been an ambassador for the Sailors’ Society Singapore Group.
The international maritime welfare charity has been giving practical, emotional and spiritual help to seafarers and their families, at home, in port and at sea for more than 200 years.
