Flares used in lost US hiker search

Flares were used in the search for a lost hiker in the Carolinas, United States.
The alarm was raised after the hiker got separated from his uncle in a remote area on Foothills Trail, on the border between North Carolina and South Carolina.
The two had set out from Rock Hill early one morning in May for a camping trip.
Emergency services conducted a search using drones and flares. It was called off later that night and resumed the following morning, reported Fox Carolina.
The hiker was later found walking along the trail and was in good health. The hiker wanted to finish the trail, so the rescue crews agreed to walk with him the two hours it took.
Five counties assisted with the search: Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Pickens and Anderson.
