Flares used in beach rescue

Coastguard and emergency rescuers used flares in a beach rescue in Ireland one afternoon in February.
A man fell close to a cliff on a beach near Cushendall, County Antirim, and received a head injury, says Portmuck Coastguard.
Portmuck Coastguard along with Larne and Ballycastle teams were paged and flares were used at the scene.
The casualty was winched into a Coastguard Helicopter and taken to hospital. Also in attendance was the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance.
Later that day, Portmuck Coastguard was paged after reports of a badly injured girl at Napoleon’s Nose area, Cavehill.
Bangor Coastguard and a Coastguard Helicopter from Prestwick also attended.
The casualty was winched up into the helicopter from the cliff and transferred to hospital. Also there to help were the police and ambulance service and the Community Rescue Service.
