Flare used in Ireland beach medical emergency

A flare was set off by emergency personnel who airlifted a man from a beach in County Clare, Ireland, to hospital after a medical emergency.
The man, in his 70s, was believed to have got into serious difficulties while swimming in Kilkee Bay and sadly later died in hospital, reports the Irish News.
Watch officers at the Irish Coast Guard marine rescue sub centre on Valentia Island in Kerry initially raised the alarm.
Kilkee Coast Guard responded, along with Clare County Fire and Rescue Service personnel from Kilkee station, Gardaí, National Ambulance Service (NAS) paramedics and Lifeguards at Kilkee Beach.
The Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, also attended. A flare was set off by the emergency services to help the emergency services, say eyewitnesses.
A Garda spokesman said, “The man was reported to have gotten into difficulty while swimming in Kilkee. He was taken from the water and airlifted to hospital were he later died.”
