Five people have been rescued with the help of a flare after their boat sank in Florida, USA.
Broward Sheriff deputies received a VHF radio call from boaters saying their 30-foot Rampage boat was taking on water, three miles east of Hillsboro Inlet.
Deputies Daniel Rocha and Jay Dunning responded in the marine patrol boat. They saw a handheld flare and spotted an orange life raft with three people inside and two holding onto it while in the water. The rescue was captured on body camera.
The five were taken into the patrol boat and medical checks were carried out. They were thankful for being rescued and said they might not have made it otherwise.
The Marine Patrol Unit deputies say that having a VHF radio, a liferaft, a flare, and life jackets onboard a vessel is crucial in an emergency. They can mean the difference between life and death.
