Flare fired by yacht in trouble

21/03/2024

A yacht in trouble at Newhaven fired a flare and was rescued by RNLI crew on the eve of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the organisation.

Newhaven RNLI was asked to help by the coastguard and the Severn-class lifeboat David and Elizabeth Acland was launched.

The yacht in trouble had suffered full engine failure and was towed to Newhaven Harbour.

The Coxswain, Lewis Arnold, says, “We’re celebrating this outstanding milestone in the best way we know how.

“The RNLI have been saving lives for 200 years. Today we are proud to commemorate this remarkable achievement and we continue to take this life-saving responsibility forward into the next 200 years.”
