The fourth World Maritime Rescue Congress took place in Canada and WesCom Signal & Rescue was represented by our local distributor, DSS Group.
The event, held in Vancouver, British Columbia, was organised by the International Maritime Rescue Federation and members of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue.
The World Maritime Rescue Congress was held in June 2019. The event, which is held every four years, occurs in a new destination every time and has been previously hosted in Sweden, China, and Germany.
As WesCom Signal & Rescue’s Canadian distributor, the DSS Group exhibited at the congress alongside its various other major partners.
The event was well attended, with most of the 55 delegates, from 38 countries, being part of Search and Rescue (SAR) organisations.
Lisa Rose, Purchasing Manager of Canadian distributor DSS Group, says, “Given the positive comments and feedback from connections made at the congress, the success of the event was made possible by contributions from industry leaders such as WesCom in partnership with their distributors.”
The event brought together search and rescue practitioners, industry and governments to share experience and best practice and discuss the future of maritime SAR. Its theme was Learning from the past; looking to the future.
The congress included Search and Rescue demonstrations, which attracted the attention of delegates and passersby alike.
The first allowed watchers to observe Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft rescue crews, Royal Canadian Marine SAR vessels and a Vancouver fire boat respond to a burning vessel where passengers are forced to abandon ship into the icy waters of Vancouver harbour where the exciting rescue unfolds.
The second demonstration involved kayakers overturned by a reckless power boater, rescued by a Royal Canadian Air Force Cormorant SAR Helicopter hoist operation.
