Dinghy rescue after flares fired in Western Australia

Two boys and their father have been rescued in Australia when flares were seen after their dinghy overturned.
The three got into trouble near Dirk Hartog Island, off the Denham Coast, Western Australia, one night in late April.
Flares were seen in South Passage off Steep Point and an EPIRB was activated after the dinghy flipped.
The family were rescued by police and volunteer marine rescue services after two flares were spotted on the mainland. A Challenger jet from Perth also helped with the search according to ABC Pilbara’s Facebook page.
Sergeant Graeme Bond said safety precautions taken by the tourists saved their lives. “Luckily they had all their safety equipment. They had their EPIRB. They had their flares. They also had life jackets and they were wearing their life jackets. It saved their lives.”
