Boater aground in Turks and Caicos fires flares

An elderly United States boater has been rescued by a ferry crew at Turks and Caicos, after firing flares when his boat ran aground.
The man, in his 70s, called for help on his radio and fired several flares after his Lucky Strike boat washed up on Great Sand Cay, also known as Big Sand Cay, one day in August 2019, reports TCWeeklyNews.
He was travelling from the Dominican Republic to Florida in his 45-foot Defever Trawler, when he ran around in adverse conditions on the deserted island, near Salt Cay.
Allan Dickinson, captain of the Salt Cay Ferry, was contacted by police and search and rescue coordinators.
He and his crew located the stranded vessel and its skipper and a volunteer swam to shore to contact the boater, who was tired but otherwise well. The man was taken to Salt Cay
Salt Cay Ferry team and the community of Salt Cay were praised on social media for their aid.
