Aircrew mark liferaft with flares in rescue
14/02/2024
Canadian aircrew marked the position of a liferaft with flares so helicopter rescuers could easily spot it.
In the liferaft, 110 kilometres off Nova Scotia’s South Shore, were three fishermen, whose boat had caught fire one morning in January.
A Hercules crew arrived ahead of the Cormorant team and used flares to mark the raft, which had drifted around 1.5kilometres away.
They lowered a search and rescue specialist, who placed rescue equipment on the fishermen so they could be hoisted aboard.
