White flares help locate missing sailor

A missing sailor has been located in the water in Ireland in pitch black conditions, thanks to white illuminating flares.
Bangor RNLI was asked by the coastguard to find and rescue a sailor whose dinghy had been damaged. The sailor had failed to return to the Ballyholme Yacht Club.
The Ruby Robinson inshore lifeboat launched, but in darkness, strong winds and moderate seas, the search was challenging.
Six white flares were fired to help illuminate the search area, which included Ballymacormick Point, a rocky headland.
An RNLI crew member heard the faint call for help from the missing sailor who had secured his vessel to a lobster pot marker buoy and the sailor was rescued.
