New Cardigan RNLI crew members train with Pains Wessex flares

Cardigan RNLI’s new crew members have been training at their Poole headquarters using Pains Wessex flares.
Trainee helmsman Leo Barber, along with volunteer crew members Madeline Barber, Sarah Morgan and Andrew Thomas attended an intensive two-day course at the RNLI’s training college. Other new members who have signed up to help save lives at sea include James Finlayson, Sam Trevor, David ‘Ollie’ James, Lisa Kenny, Jake Reading and Sam Bailey.
The training involved emergency procedures including flares and capsize training on both the Class D inshore lifeboat and the larger Atlantic class.
Cardigan lifeboat station has also appointed Pete Austin as its new Lifeboat Operations Manager who will be responsible for the management of the lifeboat station as well as volunteers to help launch and recover the lifeboats.
Sarah Jones and Gareth Lumsdaine are new trainee shore crew, Sam Trevor and Bruce Harris have qualified as lifeboat launch vehicle drivers. Bruce is also a new Deputy Launch Authority alongside fellow new appointee Amanda Barber.
All RNLI stations and boats are supplied with Pains Wessex marine pyros, including distress flares, linethowers, Day Night flares and parachute illuminators for night search and rescue operations.
