Flares bring about rapid rescue of capsized boat crew

Three men set off red flares to quickly summon help after their boat capsized off the Cape Town coast, in South Africa.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Gordons Bay responded to the alert one day in December. Two rescue craft took just three minutes to arrive at the scene.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says, “They found a person clinging to the upturned hull and two people in the water. They had called a friend to raise the alarm and they were able to set off red distress flares.”
