Fishing boat rescue after flare warning

The skipper of a fishing boat in trouble off the Cornish coast did exactly the right thing by firing a flare.
Penlee Lifeboat Station was asked by Falmouth Coastguard Operations Centre to respond one morning in January after the flare was seen in Mount’s Bay.
The RNLI Inshore lifeboat, The Mollie and Ivor Dent was quickly on scene and discovered the engine had failed due to a fuel blockage on the 20-foot local fishing boat.
An anchor had been deployed, but in a very strong North Easterly wind it was dragging and blowing the vessel towards the shore.
A Penlee Lifeboat spokesperson says, “The skipper took exactly the right action and immediately fired a distress flare which was seen and reported by many people on the shore.”
The lifeboat towed the fishing boat safely back to Newlyn.
