World’s only state of the art fully automated product facility

At the heart of Wescom’s operations lies its state of the art production facility in Bremerhaven, home to the world’s first automated pyrotechnics assembly line. This advanced manufacturing capability, designed and built in-house by Wescom’s engineering team, ensures the consistent, large scale production of reliable, high quality pyrotechnics.

Working within the ISO 15736 and ISO 9001:2015 quality frameworks, every stage of production, from raw material sourcing and development to assembly, packaging, and testing, is meticulously managed. This rigorous process ensures compliance with and exceeds the stringent SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) standards and annual independent testing for flag state approvals.

Proven performance ensured by rigorous testing

Every Wescom pyrotechnic product undergoes multi stage inhouse quality controls. Testing covers key performance metrics such as height, brightness, duration, colour, and activation safety delays. Additional batch testing of final product prior to distribution ensures that every product meets or surpasses market expectations and regulatory requirements.

To maintain its reputation for excellence, the Bremerhaven facility incorporates world class inspection and testing systems, including:

• X-Ray analysis of every rocket propellant to ensure flawless flight performance.
• Light Tunnel testing of each batch to verify brightness and colour accuracy.
• Smoke Density testing of Lifesmoke and MOB compositions for consistent visibility performance.
• Rocket Thrust testing to confirm optimal parachute deployment, even in challenging wind conditions

A prime example is the Pains Wessex and Comet extendable hand flares, engineered for compact storage and safe, intuitive use in emergency conditions. An independently certified deployment delay and ergonomic grip design further enhance safety during activation.

Wescom Group is an active member of professional standards organisations, such as ILAMA (International Life Saving Appliance Manufacturers Association) and the FSR (the association of Sea Rescue Equipment), and is actively involved in helping to maintain and drive current and future standards for safety in pyrotechnics.  It’s trusted Pains Wessex and Comet pyrotechnics are used by the professional search and rescue communities, including Germany’s DGzRS and the UK’s RNLI, for distress signalling, illumination and coordination of recovery operations.
