Role:

sMRT is looking for a Quality Engineer to join our team in Hull and play a key role in maintaining and improving quality across our operations. You’ll work closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure products, processes and services consistently meet customer, regulatory and company requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS).
• Support internal and external audits and the closure of non-conformances.
• Investigate quality issues, customer complaints and supplier non-conformances.
• Carry out root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Monitor and improve supplier quality performance.
• Support supplier approval, assessments, audits and development.
• Review supplier quality documentation and certificates to ensure compliance.
• Support First Article Inspection (FAI), product verification and validation activities.
• Conduct inspections and product audits to ensure conformity with specifications.
• Work closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to resolve quality issues.
• Support new product introductions, process changes and customer projects.
• Promote quality awareness and continuous improvement across the organisation.
• Use quality tools including 8D, 5 Whys and Root Cause Analysis.

Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Quality role, ideally within manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Quality Assurance/Quality Control principles.
• Experience investigating non-conformances, customer complaints and supplier quality issues.
• Experience supporting internal and external audits.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
• Experience in marine, defence, engineering or regulated manufacturing is desirable.

Qualifications & Attributes:

• HNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing or a Quality-related discipline.
• Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor qualification is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Proactive, solutions-focused and able to work independently.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to suppliers and customers.
• Eligible to work in the UK.
