ATMIS Multispectral Camouflage System Arctic Demonstration

ATMIS Multispectral Camouflage System Performance in Arctic Conditions.

ATMIS Multispectral Camouflage System (MSC) has been demonstrated at Griffin Tech Days (GTD26) in Finland, with evaluations conducted under Arctic winter conditions to validate performance across multiple spectral bands in a high contrast environment.

The demonstrations focused on the system’s ability to reduce detectability across visual, near infrared (NIR), short wave infrared (SWIR), mid wave infrared (MWIR), and long wave infrared (LWIR) spectrums, addressing the growing threat posed by persistent ISR, thermal imaging, and multi-sensor targeting capabilities. Snow covered terrain and low ambient temperatures present a particularly demanding test for signature management solutions due to high reflectivity, thermal contrast, and limited background clutter.

The ATMIS Multispectral Camouflage System configurations were assessed for their effectiveness in disrupting target acquisition cycles, degrading sensor recognition ranges, and supporting force survivability through adaptive concealment across static and semi mobile use cases. The demonstrations also examined deployment practicality, material performance in sub zero conditions, and compatibility with operational equipment and platforms.

Griffin Tech Days provides a controlled but operationally representative environment where defence technologies can be evaluated against real environmental variables, enabling engagement with end users, programme stakeholders, and technical specialists. Demonstrating in Arctic conditions is particularly relevant for forces operating in northern and high latitude theatres, where signature management requirements differ significantly from temperate environments.

The activity forms part of ongoing efforts to validate ATMIS MSC as a scalable signature management capability supporting modern manoeuvre concepts, dispersed operations, and survivability against multi domain sensing threats. The capability supports applications including military camouflage, battlefield concealment, thermal signature reduction, counter-ISR operations, sensor evasion, reconnaissance survivability, expeditionary forces, armoured vehicles, forward operating bases, dismounted troops, and multi domain operations in contested environments.
