Fishermen rescued with help from flares

Four fishermen have been located and rescued after the engine failed on their boat at Shellharbour, New South Wales, in Australia.
Flares were used by Marine Rescue NSW volunteers to narrow down their location. The seven-and-a-half-hour search took place one night in March.
Marine Rescue NSW received a call for help and Marine Rescue vessel Shellharbour 30 began the search.
Illawarra Zone Duty Operations Manager Stuart Massey says, “Conditions were challenging on the way out and the way back.”
Crew members asked the skipper to use flares to indicate their position. “With the sea mist and smoke haze it was difficult to locate the distressed vessel hence the request for flares to pinpoint their location.”
Marine Rescue NSW reached the stricken boat, rescued the fisherman and towed the vessel back to Shellharbour Marina.
